I am very excited to present to you Nonviolent Communication (NVC) or Language of Life and let you know how it really can affect our society to create a just, caring and peaceful environment everywhere in the world. I sincerely advocate this language andrecommend everyone to adopt it and share it with others.
I discovered NVC in July of 2017. After a month, not only have I found my true inner peace with my own values but I was able to improve my quality of communication in my relationship with others. I am now able to freely and fearlessly apply my own standards and spiritual values in my daily life, without hypocrisy and without being culturally manipulated. I am able to respect others opinions and values without comparing myself to others.
Nonviolent Communication Part 1
When we deeply observe the past 10,000 years of human history, we see that society has been culturally educated to be obedient to their kings and rulers out of fear and have allowed these authorities to fulfill their own personal agenda. People would follow their orders without thinking they were even able to question them. To create such a dominant culture, an authoritarian language was created that disconnected people from their own natural potential and their power of thinking and reasoning. Law makers made people believe that humans are good or bad, right or wrong, appropriate or inappropriate based on their own authoritarian standards and rules. Therefore, by practicing their own moralistic judgments, these authorities made people believe that if they didn’t follow their orders then they deserved to be punished, making violence part of normality in every tissue of society.
Nonviolent Communication Part 2
As we observe further we can see, humanity has reached a new stage of evolution in the last hundred years. The progress that we have made since the invention of the telegram, in 1844, is equivalent to humanity's entire history of human civilization in the past 10,000 years. For this reason, we need a new revolutionary language of communication that can help us handle this rapid growth in civilization. This will help facilitate peaceful communication in our families, communities, societies and all the nations around the world so that each can embrace the diverse cultural, racial, and political backgrounds and the different belief systems.
Nonviolent Communication Part 3
Despite humanity's progress and the development of its new capacities in the past 150, we still see the use of this kind of dominant language in our society and and in many of the cultures around the world. In fact, this kind of dominant language justifies violent punishments for creating order and taking control over people. For this reason, violence culturally becomes acceptable in all levels of society around the world and makes violence be seen as a source of strength by people who are in authoritative positions like in governments and justice systems, but we also see this in our educational system, amongst employees/employers and even within families. To eliminate violence in our cultures we need to change this kind of dominant language at the service of authorities. For this reason, Dr. Marshal Rosenberg (1934-2015), being himself a victim of this kind of violence in his childhood, invented a new language of communication that can eliminate the violent thinking from our minds and hearts, finding an empathetic way of communicating to solve problems and meet everybody’s needs. He dedicated the last 30 years of his life to experiment this language and to share it with others, which was a great success and helped many individuals and nations to solve their long standing conflicts. He called this new language of communication Nonviolent Communication (NVC) or Language of Life. Dr. Rosenberg believed that it is the language of authority that is disconnecting people from their own inner reality and hinders them from doing compassionate acts. He believed that NVC was a tool to overcome the hatred in the world.
Nonviolent Communication Part 4
Through NVC, people's true nature of creativity is allowed to shine and individuals are able to compassionately connect with themselves again. The quality of compassion is something that differentiates human beings from the animal kingdom but it has been stripped away from humanity due to the language of dominance used for centuries. The idea is that once people are able to connect with themselves compassionately, then they are able to connect with others in the same way. Society will no longer be a slave to the dominant language that has characterized humanity until now.
Nonviolent Communication Part 6
NVC can be learnt in a relatively short amount of time. Starting from within ourselves we are able to change the way we even speak to ourselves. This secular dominant language has conditioned our minds to talk down to ourselves when we make a mistake and has taught us to treat others the same way. NVC helps eliminate these types of negative unconscious behaviours from our personal lives and eventually from our professional and social environments. At a larger scale, our governmental systems can be influenced to have a more collaborative approach, where all are able to compassionately contribute to the well being of society.
Nonviolent Communication Part 7
I am so grateful for Dr. Marshall Rosenberg and to the individual from Iran who introduced me to NVC in July 2017. Dr. Rosenberg spread NVC by presenting his method in many countries around the world where it is practiced diligently by people who learned of it, especially in countries where secular issues and conflicts exist. Unfortunately, in order to protect their own powers on people, authorities in certain regions have been creating many obstacles to prevent this kind of language from being spread in their nations, such as Iran.
